Upgrade Shopify Google Analytics to GA4 without losing any of your data

To upgrade your Shopify Google Analytics to GA4 without losing any of your data, follow these steps:

  1. Create a new GA4 property in your Google Analytics account. This will allow you to start collecting data in the new GA4 property while still using your existing Google Analytics property.
  2. Connect your Shopify store to the new GA4 property. You can do this by going to your Shopify store’s admin page, selecting “Online Store,” and then selecting “Preferences.” From there, you can enter your new GA4 tracking ID in the Google Analytics section.
  3. Set up data import to transfer data from your existing Google Analytics property to the new GA4 property. This will ensure that you don’t lose any historical data. To do this, go to your new GA4 property, select “Data Streams,” and then select “Web.” From there, you can select “Google Analytics” as your source and enter your existing Google Analytics tracking ID.
  4. Review your data to ensure that it is being properly collected and imported into your new GA4 property. You can use the Google Analytics Debugger to verify that your data is being properly collected.
  5. Update your tracking codes on your website to include both your existing Google Analytics property and your new GA4 property. This will ensure that you continue to collect data in both properties.

By following these steps, you can upgrade your Shopify Google Analytics to GA4 without losing any of your data. It’s important to note that while your historical data will be imported into your new GA4 property, you will need to set up new goals and conversions in GA4.
